Chapter 5 of the Bedford Researcher is about examining a sources relevance, evidence, author, publisher, timelines, comprehensiveness, and genre.
5a: Evaluate Relevance: Relevance is the extent in which a source provides infomation about a research project. Important Q's to ask are about your purpose and autience.
Evaluate Evidence: Basically urges the reader to ask important Q's like is enough evidence offered? Is the right kind of evidence offered? Is the evidence used fairly? etc.
Evaluate the author: urges you to make sure that the author of your source is credible/knowledgeable. Tells you to considers Q's like; what id the authors affiliation? How do the authors Biases affect the information?
Evaluate the Publisher: Publisher is a person/group that prints or produces the document. Ask the following Q's: How can you locate information about the publisher? How do publishers biases affect information?
Evaluate timelines: Sources publication date. Articles written on sources nearest to the event you're writing about are most likely very credible.
Evaluate Comprehensiveness: Source provides a complete and balanced view of the topic.
Evaluate Genre: Documentation type. Understand information, ideas, arguments. Ask the following Q's:
What style of writing does the genre use? How is evidence used? How is the genre organized? What citation style is used? How is the document designed?
